New Gmail Hurting Marketers?

According to Business Week, the new Gmail has improved ad filters, which might hurt companies that market over the web such as Ebay, that sends its users updates and entices the user to buy more products. For the most part, there has not been much of an impact of the amount of emails opened; actually there has been less than 1% of change. On another note, double the amount of people check their emails on their phone, and people buy things from their mobile devices about half as often as a on a desktop. This brings me to another point, should marketers even have the ability to tell when their email is opened? Seems a little bit of an invasion of privacy…
